Testimonials
Fukuko's sake tasting and education far exceeded my expectations. It was a little unique in that she hosted us in her home and it was just my brother and I. Such a special treat and very intimate. Fukuko is very knowledgable about saki, and Japanese cuisine and culture. I really enjoyed the food pairings with the various saki she provided. Now I know how to read a saki label and have a better understanding of what I am buying. I would definitely recommend this experience. Great way to to spend an afternoon and learn more about (and enjoy!) Japanese food, drink, and culture.

We would give Friends & Food 10 stars if it were possible. Fukuko Kishimoto takes you deep into the rich heritage of Japanese food and cooking. Her extensive credentials, plus her warm and charming personality make this cooking class interesting, engaging, and fun all at the same time. If you want some of the mystery taken out of Japanese cooking, and if you'd like to familiarize yourself with the seemingly exotic ingredients used in this culinary art, sign up!
Kisshy was very welcoming! She took the time to explain all the important ingredients to understand the basics of Japanese cuisine and make us taste them before using them in our recipes. We also had a little sake degustation since Kisshy is also a sake sommelier! The food was delicious, simple to make and she sent us all the detailed recipe afterwards. Thank you Kisshy!
Turns out that Fukuko is not only a great cook, but she works as a Sake Sommelier! This turned out to be a pleasant surprise. A great group dynamic also helped, so we got right into cooking and knowing more about sushi and the proper basic techniques for it. She was caring, witty and loved talking about other kinds of food, where you come from and why you end up taking this class :) Even more props for the vegan and vegetarian alternatives, which makes this experience cater to everyone!
This was a really fun and relaxed experience. We got to learn and see a lot thoughout the class, which covers some basics of Japanese flavors and cooking. I think it would be a great thing to do right at the start of your trip! As I'm vegan, she had put together separate versions of each dish for me, so veggie people are certainly welcome here. There were a few items that had to be prepared ahead of time, but she always made sure to explain the process she had gone through to make them. Fukuko was very relatable and enthusiastic, excited to share her recommendations for Tokyo. A good time, and a great lunch!
