Inside of Tsukiji Fish market
Tsukiji Fish market is my favorite place in Tokyo. I visit there almost twice a month for grocery shopping. I often buy dried ingredients, such as bonito flakes and sea kelps there because each special shops have variety of the products and the shop staffs have knowledge so I can ask them anything about the ingredients.
Unfortunately, inside of the fish market will relocate new building in Toyosu in fall 20018. People will miss the atmosphere of traditional building and vigorous workers there, so do I. Now the inside of the market only opens for professional culinary workers in early morning, however, it opens for public after 10 am. I could visit there for special shopping such as fresh salmon, shell fish and seasonal seafood. I'm always exciting to get into the market.
Surprisingly, I have never smell of fishy smell in the market, even it is in mid summer. It may be possible to smell because they take care of tons of live and dead fish. I read an article before that the market tenants use seawater to clean the fish and the places and that doesn't allow any fishy smell. Now I understand!
If you have any chance to visit there please be careful for automobile, called tarlet.
Tsukiji fish market is closed on Wednesdays and Sundays. However, it is irregular in December.
Closing on Wednesday is only December 6th.
Hope you visit inside of the market if you have chance.
